The Best Summer Indie Books of 2016

Let's just get this out of the way. No, not all of these books were published this summer. Yes, these were books I purchased in summertime. Yes, you can read them whenever because books aren't seasonal. (Plus, it's September, but it feels like July, so that counts, right?)

Okay, allow me to introduce you to your new favorite books.

Looking for books to read? These titles will have you flipping like crazy! Click for full post.jpg

Salt by Nayyirah Waheed

If you're interested in poetry, this collection is a must. From Nayyirah's popular Instagram comes a book of poetry that will deepen your outlook on the world ad have you dog-earing like crazy.

The Distant Shore by Mariam Kobras

Having met Mariam through Twitter, I knew I had to buy this book. Winner of the 2012 Independent Publisher's Bronze Medal for Romance, this book is full of lyrical, lovely writing.

Waiting for Paint to Dry by Lia Mack

If you're looking for a book on the serious side, dive into this one. This book has received great reviews and handles the subject of rape in a delicate manner.

The Summer Games by R.S. Grey

This is a book that I found through Instagram, because I'm utterly obsessed with the author's feed. While I haven't read this yet, I hear that it errs on the steamy side, so keep that in mind!

Little Miss Chaos by Paula Hilton

Oh, this set up. Boy meets girl as he's robbing the store where she works. How can you not be hooked by that premise??

The Dreamer by E.J. Mellow

Again, this is a book I found through Instagram. (Sensing a pattern here, eh?) Winner of the eLit Book Awards' Silver Medal, this novel asks, "does something truly exist if you only see it when you close your eyes?" Count me in.

Thoroughly Modern Mirella by L.S. Mooney

For every musical theater fan out there, this book is yours for the reading. My friend's book about navigating the world of community theater is truly fantastic, and I can't wait to see more like this from her!

Love Like Crazy from Megan Squires

Eppie Aberdeen. Based on that name alone, I'm sold on this book. (Plus, that cover.) This story promises a revised fairytale, and I can't wait to see what that holds.

Reaper's Run by David VanDyke

If you're looking for a fast-paced read, then I couldn't recommend this book more. You literally feel as if you're running through the book with Jill, and it's intense! (Also, this is a series, so there's more fun to come.)

New World Rising by Jennifer Wilson

This books boasts a cross between Divergent and Mad Max. With places like The Sanctuary and The Walls, this book dives into revolutions and survival. Yes, please!

Godhead by Ken Mooney

Say hello to the Olympians! (Who puts the glad in Gladiator? HER.CU.LES!) Sorry, had to do it. With Zeus gone, this book brings life to new gods.

Girl Unseen by Kate Ellison

I read this book on a beach vacation and could not stop until it was over. It kept me hooked the whole way, and I couldn't stop questioning, who did it? Get your hands on a copy of this one. You won't be sorry!

So, there you have it. What books did you read this summer? Scroll down to the comments and fill me in!
